What is relative atomic mass?
The average mass one atom of an element.

20th Century, so before this scientists had no idea of atomic structure and atomic number.

Because elements were placed in the order of relative atomic mass and not the properties of the elements.

Dmitri Mendeleev took 50 elements and arranged them in a Table of Elements with gaps.

What order did Mendeleev put the elements in?
In the order of atomic mass but if the properties meant it should be changed he switched the order.

What did the gaps in the Table of Elements indicate?
The existence of undiscovered elements which helped Mendeleev predict what their properties may be.

In The 20th century what was discovered which confirmed Mendeleev was correct and how?
Isotopes by not placing elements in a strict order of atomic mass but take into account of their properties as isotopes have different atomic masses but same properties so they stay in the same position in the periodic table.
