What happened to Nkrumah between 1950 and 1952 in the Gold Coast
He was imprisoned in 1950 but in 1951 his party (CCP) won the general election and was released. He was elected Prime Minister in 1952 with members of the CCP as his government.

Given indpependence 6 March 1957 and called themselves Ghana.

divided by ethnic group by the British and created seperate federations which were organised by regions.

Why did nationalist pressures cause the chnage from the Richards constitution to the Macpherson Constitution?
Becuase the initial constitution created 3 different regions in the West, East and the South which was culturally insensitive

What did the Macpherson Constitution entail?
Created National Council of ministers (185 seat federal House of Representatives). Regions were allowed to govern themselves with an elected assembly. New ethnic parties created ethnic + regional territory lines.
