Tithings
Groups of ten men responsible for each other's behavior. If one broke the law, the others had to bring him to court, or pay a fine.

Hue and Cry
If an alarm was raised, the entire village had to hunt for the criminal. If someone did not join the hue and cry then the whole village had to pay a heavy fine.

Constables
Men from every village or town appointed(annually) to uphold law and order. They did this in their own time and received no payment

Posse
A group of men 15 and over called by the sheriff to track down a criminal

Watchmen
Men who patrolled the streets trying to prevent crime
