What was Aquinas's first way?
we can observe things in motion from a satate of actuality to a state of potentiality- a thing cannot be in a potential state and an actual state at the same time- something in motion must be put in to motion by something else- a first mover
1 of 8
What was Aquinas's second way?
Nothing is an efficent cause of itself, it is not possible to have an infinite regres of causes which means there must be a first efficent cause- "God"
2 of 8
what is Aquinas's third way?
things once did not exist and wil not exist. But if this is true there would be a time where nothing existed- this means there must be a necessary being to bring everything else in to existence
3 of 8
What did Hume believe?
If God is self caused, why cant the universe be? contingent beings could simply be overlapping meaning there is no need for a cause. Just because things in the universe has an explination doesnt mean the universe as a whole has one

5 of 8
What is a Cause in Fieri and a Cause in Esse?

What did Russell believe about the Universe and Causation?
Causation is something we observe within the universe but we have no reason to believe it applies to the whole universe. He also believes if you explain the things within the universe you have explained the universe as a whole
7 of 8
What did Russell believe about sufficent reason and Necessary beings?
There is no such thing as a sufficent reason for the universe. There is also no such thing as a "necessary being" as the word "necessary" applies to propositions not existence
