What is Nomative social influence?
This occurs when an individual conforms because they want to be liked and accepted by the group. They do not neccessarily agree with the group view but do not want to be left out or feel abnormal, so they go along with the group norms.

What is informational social influence?
Occurs when an indiidual conforms because they want to be right. In situations where they are unsure they look to other group members for guidance.

Compliance, internalisation and identification

What is compliance?
Occurs when an individual changes his orher behaviour to fitin with the group, but their private opinion does not change. Shallowest level of conformity because there is no real change in belief occurs; want to be accpeted

What is internalisation?
occurs when an individual changes both their public and private opinion as a result of the group influence. Deepest level of confomity they accept the group view as their own. leads to a permanent change in opinion.

What is identification?
occurs when an indvidual changes their behaviour and/or opinion because they like and admire the members and want to become like them. may chnage both public and private opinion but it is unlikely to last after they leave the group.

a collection of traits/characteristics that lead a person to be highly obedient to authority figures

What are the characteristics of an authoritrian personality?
extreme respect to authority and are submissive to it. they are likely to show contempt for people they perceive as having inferior social status. Thye believe that society needs strong and powerful leaders to enforce traditional values.
