What was war communism?
The Bolsheviks took control of factories, mines, workshop and railways. Workers were forced to work in factories. Grain was forcefully taken from the peasants. Bolsheviks took control of the banks. Private trade was not allowed. Food was rationed.

The red army needed to be supplied with food and weapons to help it fight the Civil War against the Whites.

The sailors at the Kronstadt naval base revolted against the Bolsheviks. They wanted to end war communism.
