Circulatory System

?
The Heart
The heart is a muscular pump. It is located behind and left to the Sternum. Supplies blood to the tissues of the body.
1 of 12
Anatomy of the Heart.
The heart consists of four chambers. The two upper chambers are the Atria, and the two lower chambers are the Ventricles. The walls of the Ventricles are thick and more muscular to push blood away from the heart and through the body.
2 of 12
Movement of blood through the heart
Blood enter the heart via the Atria. It is then pushed down to the Ventricles where it is forced out into the tissues of the body.
3 of 12
Systemic Circulation
Components: Left Ventricle, Aorta, Arteries, Capillaries, Tissues, Vena Cava, Venues, Veins, Right Atrium.
4 of 12
Pulmonary Circulation
Components: Right Ventricle, Lungs, Left Atrium, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Vein.
5 of 12
Blood Vessels
There are three types:Arteries, Veins, and Capillaries.
6 of 12
Arteries
Thick Walls. More Elastic. Smooth Muscle. Carry Blood under High Pressure.
7 of 12
Veins
Thin Walls. Less elastic. Less smooth muscle. Carry blood under low pressure. Contain Valve to halt back-flow of blood.
8 of 12
Capillaries
The smallest. Thinnest walls (1 cell thick). The most numerous of blood vessels. Materials can pass through walls.
9 of 12
Blood Pressure
There are two types of blood pressure; Systolic Blood Pressure and Diastolic Blood Pressure.
10 of 12
Systolic Blood Pressure
The pressure of blood when the Heart beats.
11 of 12
Diastolic Blood Pressure
The Pressure of blood when the heart is relaxed.
