How capable is a child of speaking when in the vegetative stage and how old are they?
The child will be 0-4 months old and will not be able to speak or form words and will only make sounds of discomfort or reflexive actions.

How old is a child during their 'cooing' stage and what does the cooing stage entail in relation to language acquisition?
The child is generally 4-7 months old. They will be able to make comfort sounds and use vocal play, such as open mouthed vowel sounds such as 'Aaaa'.

What stage is the child in at 6-12 months old and what does this stage entail?
The child is in the Babbling Stage. This is when the child will make repeated patterns of consonant (fricative) and vowel sounds. This is when the airflow is partially blocked.

The child is in the proto-word stage. They will still babble and may start to make word-like vocalisations. These 'words' are not words, but may sound like them. Such as 'mama' and 'dada.'

A plosive sound is when the airflow is blocked for a brief time, including sounds such as; b, d and j.

Types of sounds - what is a fricative sound?
A fricative sound is when the airflow is partially blocked and the air moves through the mouth consistently. These include v and z.
