What are the three stages of child language development?
Crying,cooing and babbling

6-9 months old, sounds begin to closely resemble those of adult language.

Refers to the repetition of sounds. E.g- 'baba' or 'mama'

What does 'phonemic expansion' mean?
The number of phonemes produced increases

What does 'phonemic contraction' mean?
The number of phonemes produced is reduced to those found in the native language

At what age does phonemic contraction take place?
At 9 or 10 months old

What does 'deletion' mean?
Deleting certain sounds to simplify pronunciation

How might deletion take place?
1) Final consonants may be dropped. E.g- the 't' sound in 'hat'
