Balancing Chemical Equations?
If there is the same amount of chemicals on each side of the equation it is said that the equation is therefor balanced.
1 of 12
An Example
H2 + O2 - H2O2 this is balanced

What is an acid?
An acid is a solution with a pH of less that 7.
3 of 12
What is an alkali?
An alkali is a solution with a pH greater than 7.
4 of 12
What does neutral mean?
Neutral is when the solution is acidic nor alkaline and its pH is 7.
5 of 12
What is are indicators?
They are substances which change colour as the pH of a solution alters.
6 of 12
2 examples of indicators?
(1) Bromothymol Blue (2) Universal Indicator

Can you describe how to test household substances to find out if they are acid, alkali or neutral?
We used a special kind of paper ( ) and you put the different substances in containers and dip the end of the paper in the substance. You then hold the paper up the the pH scale and you can find out its pH number.

2 examples of all alkali, acid and neutral household substances?
Alkali: Bleach and Baking Soda Acid: Vinegar and Lemon Juice Neutral: Olive oil and Milk
9 of 12
What is the pH scale?
It is a scale which measures the acidity or alkalinity of solutions.
10 of 12
The range of the pH scale?
0 to 14
