The way in which a person acts.

Panic
A Phobic Person may panic in the response to the presence of the phobic stimulus. (crying,running away/freezing,clinging)

Avoidance
A phobic person will tend to go to a lot of effort to avoid coming in contact with the phobic stimulus, making it hard to go about daily life.

Endurance
Remaining in the presence of the phobic stimulus but continuing to experience high levels of anxiety.

(Emotional)
The way in which a person feels.

Anxiety
Preventing the sufferer to be relaxed, preventing positive emotion, it is immediate and unpleasant.

Unreasonable Emotional Response
Anxiety is an unreasonable response because it is usually disproportionate to the danger actually posed.

(Cognitive)
The Process of thinking- Knowing, perceiving, believing.

Selective Attention
If the sufferer can see the phobic stimulus it will be difficult for them to look away, this isn't a useful response if the fear is irrational.

Irrational Beliefs
A phobic person may hold irrational beliefs in relation to the phobic stimuli, for example, "if i see a spider it will kill me".

Cognitive Distortions
The persons perceptions of the phobic stimulus may be distorted, for example, someone with a fear of snakes may perceive them as aggressive and alien looking.
