When did this flood occur?
The flash flood began on the 29th of July 2010

What caused the flood?
Monsoon Depression (Jet Streams became stationary) - 312mm of rain on a single day!

What are the human factors that link with the flood?
Deforestation, Irrigation Infrastructures and Barrages (Dams)

How many people were affected?
20 million people were affected. 2946 injured while 1985 dead (120 deaths after 2 days)

What was the cost for the damage dealt by the flood?
Around £4.53 billion - £48.5 million estimated to repair just the roads!

How many school were repaired
1500 schools repaired

What were the short-term impacts of the flood?
No food / clean water / electricity and many roads / bridges were washed away (no transportation = people stranded)

What percent of the cotton was washed away?
20% of cotton - this meant job loss

Around a total of 200,000 livestock were killed!

23% of crops were destroyed

Around 14,000 Cattle died. What does this mean?
No milk, the meat begins to rot, therefore diseases begin to spread

Cholera, Malnutrition and Malaria

What was done about it (response)?
UN, Islamic Relief and UK Government distributed (Food) Aid

What were the specific responses given by the UK Government?
12 Emergency Planes, Tents and Shelter for 1.3m people, 2.5m people given safe drinking water, 1500 schools repaired and Accelerated Projects
