Perform flame test. Red flame=calcium. Other is magnesium

Blue precipitate is formed

What are the steps finding out whether it's a carbonate ion?
Add dilute acid. it reacts with carbonate to make CO2 gas

To make sure it's CO2, what do we do?
Bubble through limewater and see if it turns cloudy.=> From CO3

What is the equation of acids and carbonates reacting?
Acid+carbonate --> salt+water+carbon dioxide

What steps do we follow to find out whether it's a halide ion?
Add dilute HNO3=>Add Silver nitrate solution. Precipitates formed.

White precipitate.

Cream precipitate.

Yellow precipitate.

Add dilute HCl or HNO3=>add barium chloride solution.
