Resting potential
The potential difference between the inside and the outside of a membrane when a nerve impulse is not being conducted.
1 of 6
Action potential
A change that occurs in the electrical charge across the membrane of an axon when it is stimulated and a nerve impulse passes.
2 of 6
Depolarisation
Temporary reversal of charges on the membrane that takes place when a nerve impulse is transmitted.
3 of 6
Saltatory conduction
Transmission of a nerve impulse along a myelinated axon in which the action potential jumps from one node of Ranvier to another.
4 of 6
Neuromuscular junction
A synapse that occurs between a neurone and a muscle.
5 of 6
Photoperiod
A period of illumination.
