You would find striated muscle in the thorax in the Diaphragm and heart, as cardiac muscle is also striated.

Your question about Z-lines is confusing - the space between TWO z-lines shorten. The statement 'the z-line shorten's' is incorrect though, because the line itself (intercalary disk) remains the same. It should really say Z-line's of the sarcomere come together/space between the z-lines shortens/contracts - if you see what i mean?
