A network of cells, used to communicate information around the body and coordinate the working of our different organs

What is the nervous system divided into?
The Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)

What is the CNS comprised of?
The brain and spinal cord

What is the purpose of the CNS?
To pass messages to and from the brain and to connect nerves to the PNS. The spinal cord is responsible for reflex actions i.e. pulling your hand away from a hot plate

What is the PNS comprised of?
The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and the Somatic Nervous System (SNS)

What is the purpose of the ANS?
To govern vital functions in the body such as breathing, heart rate, digestion etc.

What is the purpose of the SNS?
To control muscle movement and receive information from sensory receptors
