Biology Revision Cards

My biology revision cards for the exam.

?
What is the purpose of the nucleus?
It contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
1 of 16
What does a cytoplasm do?
The Cytoplasm is a gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that controls these chemical reactions.
2 of 16
What does the cell membrane do?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
3 of 16
Most of the reactions for respiration to take place comes from the________
Mitochondria
4 of 16
What is the job of the ribosomes?
To produce proteins in the cell
5 of 16
What is the definition of Diffusion?
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
6 of 16
Fill in the missing word(s): The diffusion rate is faster when there is a difference in ___________
Concentration
7 of 16
Define a tissue.
A tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function. It can include more than one type of cell.
8 of 16
Define an organ.
A group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function.
9 of 16
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ sunlight) ----> Glucose + Oxygen
10 of 16
What is photosynthesis?
The process that produce glucose in plants and algae.
11 of 16
Photosynthesis happens in the ______
Chloroplasts
12 of 16
What are the four raw materials needed for photosynthesis?
-Sunlight -Chlorophyll -Water -Carbon Dioxide
13 of 16
What is the rate of photosynthesis affected by? Give 3 things.
The intensity of light, the volume of Carbon Dioxide, and the temperature.
14 of 16
Why is it important that the temperature of the plant has to be just right, for photosynthesis to happen?
If the temperature is too low, the enzymes needed for photosynthesis work more slowly at a low temperature. And if the plant is too hot, the enzymes it needs for photosynthesis and its other reactions will be damaged.
15 of 16
How do plants use glucose? Give 5 ways.
-For respiration -For making cell walls -For making proteins -Stored in seeds -Stored as starch
