Osmosis
The movement of water molecules across a partially permable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration
1 of 14
Structure of Leaves
Lets gases diffuse in and out of cells
2 of 14
The Breathing System
The lungs are in the thorax the air you breathe in goes through the trachea this splits into two tubes called bronchi then smaller tubes called bronchioles then finally into small bags called alveoli
3 of 14
Thorax
The upper part of your body
4 of 14
Ventilation
This is breathing in, intercostal muscles and the diaphram contract, the thorax volume increase and this decreases pressure drawing air in
5 of 14
Breathing Out
Intercostal muscles and the diaphragm relax and the volume of the thorax decreases and the pressure is increased so air is forced out
6 of 14
Artificial Ventilators
Machines that movie air into or out of the lungs they help people who can't breathe by themselves
7 of 14
Villi
Provides a really big surface area inside of the small intestine so that digested food is asorbed more quickly into the blood
8 of 14
Gas Exchange in the Lungs
The job of the lungs is to transfer oxgen to the blood and to remove waste carbon dioxide from it they do this by air sacs called alveoli where gas exchange takes place
9 of 14
Root Hairs
Specialised for asorbing water and minerals as gives plants a big surface area
10 of 14
Active Transport
Active transport is used in the gut when there is a low concentration of nutrients in the gut but a high concentration of nutrients in the blood
11 of 14
Phloem Tubes
They transport food it goes in both directions
12 of 14
Xylem Tubes
They take water UP in the transpiration stream
13 of 14
Transpiration
Is the loss of water form the plant
