BIOLOGY TOPIC ONE

?
Why is water a good transport medium in all living things?
Water is a good transport medium because it acts as a solvent. It’s an excellent solvent because of its uneven charge distribution. Water molecules are polar, meaning one end of the molecule is slightly positive and the other end is slightly negative
1 of 6
What is meant by the term polar?
Polar means that the molecule is both negatively and positively charged.
2 of 6
What is the chemical nature of water?
Water molecules are made up of two hydrogens atoms and one oxygen atom.
3 of 6
What does soluble mean?
A substance that is able to be dissolved, particularly in water
4 of 6
Which part of a water molecule is negative and which part is positive?
Hydrogen is positive and oxygen is negative
5 of 6
Why do ionic substances dissolve easily in water?
Ionic substances dissolve easily in water due the dipole nature of water. The negatively charged ions and the positively charged ions are separated by the water molecules.
