How are photosynthetic organisms described as important?
They are main producers of food and therefore biomass in all food chains
1 of 9
What factors affect rate of photosynthesis?
Light intensity
Carbon dioxide concentration
Temperature
2 of 9
How does temperature limit rate of photosynthesis ?
Photosynthesis is an enzyme-controlled reaction so rate of photosynthesis increases with temperature. However, at a certain point the enzymes begin to denature at too high a temperature and rate of photosynthesis will decrease.
3 of 9
What does the shape of a graph look like with temperature on the x-axis and rate of photosynthesis on the y-axis?
Rising line until it curves at the enzymes' optimum temperature. After this, the line goes down.
4 of 9
How does light intensity limit rate of photosynthesis ?
The higher the light intensity, the faster the rate of photosynthesis
5 of 9
What does a graph look like with light intensity on the x-axis and rate of photosynthesis on the y-axis?
Constant rising line until a gradual plateau due to either temperature or CO2 concentration becoming the limiting factor
6 of 9
How does carbon dioxide concentration affect rate of photosynthesis?
The higher the carbon dioxide concentration, the faster the rate of photosynthesis
7 of 9
What does this look like on a graph?
Steady rising line until a plateau due to light or temperature becoming limiting factors

1) What is the function of root hair cells?
2) How are they specialised to carry it out?
1) Take in water by osmosis and mineral ions by active transport from the soil
2) Protruding root hairs provide a larger surface area so more water is absorbed
Many mitochondria to provide energy for active transport
