What is a balanced diet?
A diet which contains the right amount of nutrients needed for a healthy lifestyle

When someone doesn't eat enough, too much or missing some nutrients

A pathogen is an organism that causes disease

An antibiotic is a drug that kills bacteria

What is a mutation?
A mutation is where a form of a gene changes

What is meant by 'antibiotic resistance'?
It means where antibiotic cannot be used to kill a bacteria as they are ineffective

How does a vaccine work?
A small dead/inactive form of the pathogen is injected into the blood, where white blood cells are produced and quickly produce antibodies which kill the pathogen. The body remembers the antibody required so in the future it can be produced fast.

Describe the process of making a microorganism culture
A Petri Dish and culture is sterilised by killing all the unwanted organisms. An inoculating loop (used to transfer the culture) is sterilised also be passing it through a flame. The lid must be secured using tape to prevent contamination; NB 25Dev
