What is the test for starch?
Add Iodine solution into a test tube if starch is present the solution will turn into a blue/black colour.

The iodine will remain an orange colour.

What is the test for sugars such as glucose?
Add 10 drops of benedick solution onto your food source. Place the test tube into a beaker filled with hot water from a kettle, leave for 5 minutes. If sugars are present the benedicks solution should change colour.

What colour is benedicks solution?
Benedicks solution is blue.

What is the test for protein?
Add Biuret solution into a test tube onto your food source. If protein is present the solution will turn from blue to a purple/pink colour.

Emulsion test- add ethanol to your food source, shake it, add water. If it goes cloudy then lipids are present.

Sudan 3 is a red colour.
