Homeostasis and the Kidney

?
What is mammalian tissue made up off and why does it need to kept at constant factors?
Made up of a collection of cells bathed in a extracellular fluid.

To keep water, ion content, temp, PH, oxygen levels, irrespective of the external conditions outside the body.
1 of 7
What is Homeostasis?
The maintenance of constant or steady state conditions within the body
2 of 7
What are the 3 homeostasis responses?
Control system with sensors, provide info allowing monitoring of the factor being controlled. The sensors can be in the brain.

If receptors show a departure from set point for the factor being controlled, then corrective mechanism brings about change req
3 of 7
Why is Homeostasis control of mammalian body system essential?
1. provides optimum conditions for enzymes reaction in term of Ph and temp

2. avoiding osmotic problems in cells and in body fluid.
4 of 7
What is Excretion?
The removal of the toxic waste of metabolism
5 of 7
What is the main toxic waster product excreted from the kidneys?
Urea, a nitrogenous waste produced during the breakdown of excess amino acids

creatine, breakdown of creatine phosphate in muscles
6 of 7
What is Osmoregulation?
The control of the water potential of body fluids. Kidney helps regulate the water potential of the blood through controlling both volume and concentration of urine produced.
