If a horse/pony is grass kept and needs a rug, how many rugs should you have?
Two as a minimum as if one is damaged or soaked another can replace it.

Snug but not too tight, the fit may vary so have to choose from a variety of styles.

Clips, stitching and for rubbing. Also water proofing.

Put up neck fold back over rug and secure it with surcingle/ roller and pad

How many types of sweat rug?
two a) traditional string type used under a rug or b) wicking away type

What is a summer sheet used for?
Light weight cotton sheet, to keep horse clean in stable, keep flies off , to travel in or sometimes as a liner.

How do you fit a rug?
Measure length. Centre of chest to point of the quarters. But fit is often due to shape and have to try different makes.

What does a well fitting rug look like?
covers the horse, but not too long, fits round neck snuggly but not too tight or gappy. Sufficient material to buckle up. Not too tight over shoulders or withers. Depth to cover barrel.

Putting on rug sequence?
Tie up horse, tie up surcingles, fold rug in half inside out, approach horse on nearside, Place over neck forward of position, buckle up, pull back into position, do surcingles then clips.

What is the correct way to do surcingles if there are two or three?
two = cross over, three straight.

How tight should the surcingles be?
Not to tight but not to allow it to slip or slide.

Final check when putting on rug is what?
Check flat and mane isnt caught up.

What is the correct sequence to take of a rug?
Tie up horse.. then either this or reverse. Talk to horse as approach hindquarter, Untie leg straps and clip up, Untie surcingles, untie check buckles. Fold forward and then slide off.
