what is osmosis?
osmosis is the diffusion of water from a low concentration to a high concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
1 of 11
how is osmosis different from diffusion?
differences i the concentrations of the solution inside the cells case waer to move into out ut of cells by osmosis, osmosis is only with water.
2 of 11
what i sactive transport?
active transport is when substances are absorbed against the concentration gradient such as glucose.
3 of 11
what are your avioli?
the avioli are the air sacs in the lungs
4 of 11
what makes an organ efficient when i tcomes to exchanging gases or solutions?
certain features such as large surface area, short diffusion paths and steep concentration gradients increase the effectiveness.
5 of 11
how are your lungs adapted to make gas exchange efficient?
they have many avioli, large surface area, good blood supply and short diffusion paths-thinner cell walls
6 of 11
what are the main parts of your breathing system?
the lungs are in your thorax protected by your ribcageand separated from your abdomen by the diaphra
7 of 11
how do you move air into and out of your lungs?
the intercostal muscles contract to move your ribs up and out and flatten the diaphram, increasing the volume of your thorax. the pressure decreaes and air moves in.
8 of 11
what do artificial breathing aids do?
they have been developed over the years to help people when their lungs or breathing systems do not funtion properly
9 of 11
what are the adaptions to help you absorb food efficiently?
the villi in the small intestine provide a large surface area with an extensive network of blood capillaries
10 of 11
why are your villi so important?
thye help to absord the products of digestion by diffusion and active transport.
