what is primary healthcare?
health care provided within a community for people wanting initial advice or treatment from a practitioner

medical care provided by a specialist/facility upon referral by primary physician; requiring more specialsied advice

what is tertiary healthcare?
specialised consultative care/complex services that primary or secondary can't support

what is the public sector?
organisations thta are owned and operated by the government and exist to provide services for citizens.

taxes and national insurance

emergency services, education, healthcare, social services

personal/domestic care provided for adults who have physical/learning disabilities or physical/mental illnesses

suppot provided to safeguard children form physical, social, emotional or sexula abuse and neglect and take necessary action

hospitals and clinics which are independently of the NHS. They are run by a company and can come with a huge cost.

what is voluntary/third sector?
organisations with a primary purpose to create social impact rather than profit and are run by charities.

what are daycare centres/units?
a stimulating/educational environment for older people, people with learning/disabilities, mental health or specific conditions like Alzheimers.

what is hospice care?
care to improve quality of life for people with incurable illnesses and is available from diagnosis to end of life.

what is residential care?
long term care of adults/children needing 24hr support that cannot be provided adequately in own home. Provide care for mental health, learning difficulties, older people.

what are the two types of care home?
Residential care home = provides help with personal care (washing, dressing). Nursing home= personal care alongside 24hr nursing by a qualified nurse, helps with planning, supervising

what is workplace care?
access to nurses within services for employees or referrals to other professionals (counselling). Advice, info and treatment varies to employees needs.
