what are measures of central tendency?
tells us about central, typical value in data set
1 of 13
what is the mean?
adding all the number then driving by the amount of values
the average of the numbers
2 of 13
name the evaluations
+most representative of all measures of central tendencies
-outliers can distort mean
3 of 13
what is the median?
listing the numbers correctly and cancelling out the numbers until you get the middle number
midpoint value
4 of 13
name the evaluations
+not distorted by extreme scores
-does not reflect all scores in data set
5 of 13
what is the mode?
the most common number
the maximum value as it is the mass probability
6 of 13
name the evaluations
+not distorted by extreme scores, can be used with nominal data
-there can sometimes be more than 1 mode
7 of 13
what are measures of dispersion?
define spread of data around a central value
8 of 13
what is the range?
highest value- lowest value
how far it is from one variable to another
9 of 13
name the evaluations
+easy to calculate without use of calculator
-does jot indicate the distribution pattern across the whole Data set
10 of 13
what is standard deviation?
what does large, small and zero sd mean?
looks at how far scores deviate from mean
large- there was a lot of variation around the mean
small- all data was closely clustered to the mean
zero- all the data was the same
11 of 13
name the evaluations
+precise measurement of dispersion cuz all values in data set are included
-extreme values can distort the measurement
12 of 13
*theres also calculating percentages and percentage increases but thats easy*
