Describe the 4 characteristics of the Stratosphere ?
The temperature increases with height where the stratosphere extends up to 50km. The stratosphere consists of the ozone layer and is where Aerosols are mainly found and distributed.
1 of 6
What are the main characteristics that describes the Troposphere?
The troposphere is the layer of the atmosphere that we experience and so is where weather occurs and clouds form. 80% of the mass of the atmosphere is also contained in this layer and so its the densest air.
2 of 6
What does H20 do in the atmosphere?
absorbs and reflects solar radiation as well as absorbs infrared radiation that is emitted back from earths surface
3 of 6
How does CO2 act as a greenhouse gas? And what is it also responsible for?
It absorbs infrared radiation that the earth emits / reflects from its surface (so traps heat in the atmosphere). Its also responsible for the natural acidity of rain
4 of 6
What are Aerosols and what do they do?
A pollutant that is fine solid particles or liquid droplets which comes from combustion or volcanoes etc. It scatters and absorbs radiation
5 of 6
Why does temperature increase in three of the atmospheres layers...?(decrease in mesosphere)
Heat from the earths surface from infrared being emitted and solar radiation reflected, causing a warmer atmosphere in the troposphere. Then warming in the stratosphere due to the presence of the ozone layer (MORE), thermosphere = heat from sun
