Secularism
The separation of church from state, allowing the freedom from and of religion.

Positive Atheism
(Strong atheism) A position which asserts there is no God, explicit denial of all spiritual or supernatural. For example Richard Dawkins

(Weak atheism) A position which asserts a lack of belief in any Gods without every questioning otherwise. For example a child who has been raised this way.

A suspension of accepting or rejecting belief in God until there is sufficient evidence to reach a conclusion.

(Science stuff) Science is the supreme catalyst for the rise of atheism. It has been proved to be influential for explaining many of the universes natural processes.

Recorded the first eclipse of a moon over a star. His main theory was that the earth was a part of a larger system and moves around the sun.

Found that the earth moves around the sun and the moon isn't flat.

Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection challenged the churches and theologians view of special creation by placing humans alongside monkey's.

(Psychoanalysis) Religion is the name given to psychological drives. God is a father figure created to protect us, someone to give their life meaning and stop death being the end.

Thought religion was an illusion created by capitalists to keep the working class under control. God's given human ideals to stop us from reaching our potentiality. " The opium of the masses".

Religion is man-made, projections of God are created by humans hopes and fantasies. Our unconscious mind drives us to religion.

The view that all that may be known of reality is what we know from our senses. An empiricist believes that knowledge be gained through experience.

How is empiricism connected to science?
Empiricism is seen as the basis for the development in science. The scientific approach reaches its conclusions on the basis of experience in the form of experiments and observations.

The problem with trying to prove God empirically.
Hyman said "god is precisely that which is non-empirical. This is because God is metaphysical. The events precieved believed as religious experience are not empirical proofs.

God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent so why is there still suffering in the world.

Nietzsche
The belief and need for God is dead as we no longer truly believe in God. This leaves a without God, and Nietzsche believed culture, philosophy, skepticism and scientific positivism should fill the gaps.

It doesn't necessarily prove God doesn't exist, the big bang theory doesn't exclude the idea that he could have started it and even Stephen Hawking is agnostic.

Sin carries on through sexual reproduction, God allows us free will so that we can decide what is right for ourselves, we need evil and suffering to understand good.

Just rejecting moral absolutes doesn't mean you don't believe and not all atheists reject moral absolutes.

Hick interprets this as a view of different religions worshiping the same God in different ways.

Postmodernism
A suspension of all absolute truth claims and free thought. Every society is in a state of constant change; there are no absolute values, only relative ones; nor are there any relative ones.

Postmodernist view on religion
Religion as a cultural constant, there's no right or wrong religions, religion as a personal spiritual search, living religion rather than intellectual faith.
