Name the three types of electoral systems
Majoritation systems: require winner to receive a majority (FPTP). Proportional systems: attempt to distribute seats in broad proportion to votes cast (STV). Hybrid systems: majoritarian and a proportional element (AV+).

Describe the FPTP system
650 constituencies / Each constituency elects 1 MP / Choose from a list of candidates / Candidate with most votes wins (1 more than opponent) / Win with plurality rather than absolute majority.

2005 outcome from FPTP?
Labour won 50% of seats, despite only gaining 35% of the popular vote.

2010 outcome from FPTP?
Conservatives won 36% of total votes, gaines 47% of seats. Lib Dems won 23% of total votes, but only 9% of seats.

Features of FPTP
Favours parties with concentrated support. (Labour/Cons.) / Small parties usually cannot win any seats / Keeps out extreme undemocratic parties / Safe seats (Labour and Penarth) / Wasted votes / Produces a clear winner (usually)
