What does ANOVA do?
Compares mean scores across 2 or more conditions - reduced the error that multiple t-tests could have.
1 of 8
Key assumptions of a one way ANOVA...
homogeneity of variance
normally distributed data
independence of observations
Types of variables
no significant outliers
sphericity assumption
2 of 8
Homogeneity of Variance...
the distribution of scores around the mean should be equal. tested by the Levene's test (SPSS)
3 of 8
Normally distributed data...
data should be normally distributed
4 of 8
independence of observation...
different participants in each group
5 of 8
Types of variables...
DV - interval or ratio (continuous)
IV- three or more categorical groups
6 of 8
No significant outliers
made detectable by SPSS
7 of 8
Sphereicty assumption
homogenity of variance between conditions. tested using mauchly's test (SPSS).
