What is conformity?
Conformity is going along with the crowd; it happens when we change to the social norms of a reference group, we want to be like them to be accepted.

It suggests two reasons for conformity; to be liked and to be right.

Normative Social Influence
This is conforming because we want to be liked; don't want to stand out from the crowd.

What does N.S.I result in?
It results in COMPLIANCE; a change in behaviour but not beliefs.

This is conforming because we want to be right; looking to others for guidance as we believe they have more knowledge than us.

It results in INTERNALISATION; a change in behaviour and beliefs.

A temporary change in behaviour and beliefs.

He wanted to see if people would conform on a task, even when the answer was clearly incorrect.
