Define chemical equilibrium
Chemical equilibrium is a dynamic state in which
the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant because the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal.

Define equilibrium mixture
the state reached when
the concentrations of reactants and products
remain constant in time

State the equilibrium equation
an equation that relates
the concentrations in an equilibrium mixture
3 of 12
Define the equilibrium constant Kc
the constant in the
equilibrium equation

Define the equilibrium constant Kp
the equilibrium
constant for reaction of gases, defined using
partial pressures

equilibria in which
all reactants and products are in a single phase,
usually either gaseous or solution

equilibria in which
reactants and products are present in more than
one phase

State the equilibrium equation for a reaction aA+bB=cC+dD in terms of partial pressure
Kc = ([PC]^c[PD]^d)/([PA]^a[PB]^b

State the relationship p between the equilibrium constants Kp and Kc for the reaction aA+bB=cC+dD
Kp = Kc(RT)^∆n
where R is the gas constant, 0.082 06 1L ~ atm2>1K ~ mol2, T is the absolute temperature, and ∆n = 1c + d2 − 1a + b2 is the number of moles of gaseous products minus the number of moles of gaseous reactants.

State the reaction Quotient Qc for the reaction aA+bB=cC+dD
Qc = ([C]t^c[D]t^d)/([A]t^a[B]t^b
where the subscript t denotes concentration at an arbitrary time t, not necessarily equilibrium
