1.4 Competition and 1.5 Predation.

?
What is intraspecific competition?
Competition occurs when individuals are of the same species.
1 of 8
Give examples of things organisms can compete for
Food, water, breeding sites
2 of 8
What is interspecific competition?
when competition occurs when organisms are of a different species.
3 of 8
What is a predator?
An organism that feeds on another organism ( known as their prey)
4 of 8
What happens when predator and prey are bought together in a lab enviroment? And why?
The predator will eliminate the prey, because variety in habitat is limited in a lab, so may not be able to hide or run.
5 of 8
Describe the effect of the predator-prey relationship on population size
1. Preds eats prey = reducing pop. of prey. 2. less prey for preds who are in greater competition with each other for few prey left 3. Predator pop. reduced as some cant obtain prey for survival 4. less preds less prey eaten 5. prey pop. increases.
6 of 8
What is selection pressure?
When only the individuals who are able to escape predators or withstand disease or adverse climate will survive to reproduce.
7 of 8
Why is selection pressure important?
Because they help with evolution.
