- Thermodynamics : focuses on converting energy often in the form of heat and work. describes how thermal energy is converted to and from other forms of energy and also to work.
- Thermo : critical to engines. engineers need to know how much heat or work they’ll get out of an engine if they put energy into it.
- Chemical engineering: when chemical reactions form new compounds, they often create thermal energy.
- Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics : focuses on temperature and thermal equilibrium
- Equilibrium : were certain properties, e.g. pressure, volume, temperature, remain the same across the system.
- When 2 objects are individually in thermal equilibrium with a 3rd object, then they are also in equilibrium with each other.
- First Law of Thermodynamics : defines heat as a form of energy, can’t be created or destroyed but can convert it from one form to another.
- Energy inside a system : kinetic energy (KE…
