Xerxes was the son of Darius I. 

but darius had 3 other sons... and xerxes wasn't the oldest. so he adoped the spartan system of the first son born after the dad becomes king is the rightful heir. i mean xerxes was persian n0t greek but ANYWAY...

he becomes king.

he finishes off his dad's building projects and makes his own, like The Gate Of All Lands at Persepolis.
