Why did Churchill lose office in 1945?
In the 1945 election Labour won by a landslide, which surprised the Conservatives (and everybody else) as Churchill was largely regarded as highly popular.
Labour gained 61% of the seats and 48% of the vote, whilst the Conservatives only gained 31% of the seats and 36% of the overall vote.
