War In The Air

First aeroplanes: Used for reconnaissance, spotting enemy ground movements,              good observation was key if a large battle was to begin.

To stop these missions there were pistol fights in the air.

Early aircraft did not have guns or bombs.

Advancements: Machine guns were eventually fitted onto the aeroplanes making combat in the air more likely.

Germans invented the 'Interruptor gear', this synchronised the turning of the propeller with the firing of the machine gun. This allowed the gun to be fiited in front of the pilot and let him fire accuratly.
