      • Article 231 - War Guilt Clause - Germany forced to accept sole blame for starting WW1

      • Saar (industrial area of Germany, with huge coalfields), run by the League of Nations until 1934, all profits going to France
      • Loss of German colonies, so hard to trade
      • Lost land taken from Russia in Treaty of Brest Litovsk that ended war between Russia and Germany
    • Military
      • Army reduced to 100,000 men
      • No tanks, no subs, no air force
      • 15,000 men in navy, six battleships, some smaller ships
      • Rhineland - between Germany and France demilitarised (Germany wasn't allowed to station troops there, to provide a buffer zone between Germany and France
    • Other
      • Former Kaiser, and other German leaders to be tried for war crimes
      • Germany not allowed to join the League of Nations until it could demonstrate that it was peace-loving
