Voting in Congress
- Votes in the senate have fell to an all time low, only 163 votes in 2016
- However overall votes have increased recently, the house voting 1,186 times in 2007
- Party Unity has declined greatly when it comes to voting, only 50% of votes can be defined as a unity vote
- However parties tend to come together on important issues, Democrats on the wall in 2019
- The Executive has far too much influence over voting in congress during a united government, Obama forcing Obamacare through congress
- However during a divided government the executive has limited authority on the way people vote in congress, Obama failing to get gun control through a republican congress in 2013
- Pressure groups can also greatly influence the way congress votes, the NRA making republicans vote against gun control due to their funding…
