Structure of a Leaf
Cells aren't tightly packed together and there is a large surface area available for gaseous exchange and there are also chloroplasts.
Guard cells open and close the stomata to control the water loss.
- Leaves are broad so there is a large surface area exposed to light.
- Palisade layer has lots of chloroplasts, which are at the top of the leaf so they can get the most light.
- Upper Epidermis is transparent so light can pass through it to the palisade layer.
