sawm: fasting during ramadan

origins of fasting:

-'it was in the month of ramadan that the qur'an was revealed as guidance for mankind...so any one of you who sees in that month should fast'(Qur'an 2:185)

what it involves:

muslims eat everyday before sunrise to keep them going till sunset

food, drink ,smoking etc is forbidden during daylight hours

fast is broken at sunset

exceptions:

-ill children…
