Manipulation:

• Ruth cuts Kathy out of the secret gaurd as soon as she starts to question if ruth is telling the truth.
• Kathy is extremely hurt by this however Ruth seemingly doesnt care. Ruth has a sociopathic nature.
• Ruth is desperate to stay with Tommy. She twists kathys words to make her get on the bad side of tommy and to humiliate him.

Lack of self-esteem:

• Ruth tells lies to put her in a superior position over others.
• When kathy questions her about the penicl case Ruth is extremely shocked. This shows her struggles with her identity and her crushing need for power and superiority.
