Messiah and prophecy
The Messiah
In Jewish belief, God will sent a Messiah to earth
to help the Jewish people, and save them from sin.
Christians believe that Jesus was this Messiah
sent by God
Jesus as the Messiah
Christians believes that the Old Testament
prophesies the coming of the Messiah, and Jesus
fulfilled these prophecies:
The book of Isaiah prophesies that the Messiah
will enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey, Jesus
fulfils this in the New Testament.
The book of Zechariah prophesies that the
Messiah will be betrayed, in the New Testament
Jesus is betrayed by Judas
Prophecy
The Old Testament (the first part of the Bible)
has many prophecies about the Messiah, and what
the Messiah will be like.
The life of Jesus:
incarnation and baptism
Incarnation is the Christian belief that Jesus was
both human and God.
Christians believe that Jesus wasn’t conceived as
humans are, but incarnated by a miracle of God.
Baptism
In the New Testament, Jesus is baptised in the
River Jordan by a prophet called John the Baptist.
Today, baptism is important for all Christians –
they all welcomed into the church, and baptism is
believed to wash away sin.
