Social support:

Conformity - 

·       Social support can help people to resist conforming; the presence of someone else who isn’t conforming to the majority enables a person to be free to follow their own conscience. (i.e. Aschs research).

Obedience - 

·       Social support can also help to resist obedience; the pressure to obey can decrease if there is another person who is seen to disobey. (i.e. one of Milgrams variations the rate of obedience dropped from 65% to 10% when the genuine participant was joined by a disobedient confederate).
