The Social Learning Theory:

• Non-verbal communication is learnt
• Cultural Variation (where we are raised effects our NVC)

Observation - Paying attention to a form of NVC

Imitation - Copying the behaviour

Role Model - The influential people we watch/listen to

Reinforcement - Being praised means we are more likely to repeat the behaviour

Punsihment - Being punished means we are less likely to repeat the behaviour

Example:

Someone may watch their mother smile at someone they know. That individual will then repeat the behaviour of their role model. If someone smiles back at them the behaviour is reinforced therefore meaning they will repeat the smiling.
