forgetting:
- there are two explanations to forgetting:
- interference
- retrieval failure
Interference:
- when two pieces of information disrupt each other
- results in forgetting one or both or in some distortion of the memory
- mainly for the LIM
- when information has reached the LIM it is more or less permanent
- so forgetting of LIM's is most likely because we can't get access to them even though they are available
- interference between memories makes it harder for us to locate them
Two types of interference:
- proactive interference (PI) [before]
