FAMILY DYSFUNCTION.

SCHIZOPHRENOGENIC MOTHERS:

REICHMANN 1948- cold, rejecting and controlling forming distrust and paranoid delusions.

DOUBLE-BIND THEORY:

BATESON 1972- A child fears doing wrong but recieves conflicting messages about what is wrong. Often punished with a withdrawal of love leading to disorganised thinking and delusiosn.

EXPRESSED EMOTION:

-Verbal critism, hositility and emotional over involment may cause high levels of stress, resulting in sz.

COGNITIVE EXPLANATIONS.

DYSFUNCTIONAL THOUGHT PROCESSING:

-lower levels of information processing suggests cognition is impaired.

-low processing in the ventral striatum assosiated with negative symptoms.
