Psychoanalysis
- Psychoanalysis is derived from Freud's psychodynamic model
- as the model believes that the mental illness is caused by unresolves problems, the treatment is orientated around identifying the nature of the conflict and resolving it
- as the conflict is unconscious the client will not be aware of it
- various methods are used to draw info into consciousness
- helps therapist to identify and resolve patients' issues
- the aim is for the patient to gain insight into the origins of their disorder
4 methods: Free association, word association, projective tests, dream analysis.
1. resistance- preventing progress
2. transference- transferring past attitudes to the therapis
3. interpretation- pointing out an analysing hidden meaning
4. insight- gain self knowledge
