Assumptions

1) The unconscious mind. This is one of the 3 levels of consciousness, the other two being the conscious and the pre-conscious. Freud states that as we cannot gain access to the unconscious part of our minds, we are usually unaware of the real motives that drive our behaviour. E.g. we often behave in ways and experience feelings we can't explain.
